roots in community

Most recently, Landon completed an appointment as a Hate Crimes Community Liaison with the Government of Alberta. In this role, they led a province-wide engagement strategy to inform formal recommendations to the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services on how to better address hate crimes and incidents in Alberta.

Their work in this area drew from current research and was grounded in trauma-informed, culturally humble, victim-centered, and community-based practices. As part of this work, Landon authored a published article exploring engagement approaches to hate crimes and incidents, centering the voices of those most impacted.

Through their ongoing role as a Community Social Worker with the City of Edmonton, Landon works closely with neighbourhoods and recreation centres to lead inclusive engagement that informs community development efforts—particularly around poverty reduction and social inclusion. Their approach remains adaptive, relational, and rooted in collaboration with community, non-profit, and government partners.

DID YOU KNOW? Landon recently completed a Master of Arts in Community Engagement at the University of Alberta, where their thesis research focused on the experiences of individuals who have reported hate crimes and incidents to organizations in Edmonton. They also completed their first tour as a musician in 2024 and have scored two documentaries!
